Marathon Cancelled

Marathon Cancelled

On May 6, the BC Government announced the next COVID-19 phases of opening up the economy and loosening restrictions. However, it was stated that the current mass gathering number of 50 will remain in effect for the foreseeable future until a vaccine is found. With this in mind, the Victoria Marathon Society Board of Directors regrets that it has to cancel the 2020 GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon.

We know you have been training hard and have had this in your calendar for many months, so we can imagine you are as disappointed (if not more) than us. For that we are truly sorry.

I’m registered, what happens to my registration fee?

Although extremely disappointed that we need to cancel the event, we are happy to announce that we are providing four options for registrants to convert their registration fee:

  1. Refund (minus the original processing fees) including merchandise and tickets for massage, bus tours, etc. Charity donations will not be refunded, or
  2. Deferral fee paid to 2021 or 2022, or
  3. Donate the full fee to one of our CHEK Charity Pledge Program charities, or
  4. Receive a Partial Refund and donate the rest to one of our CHEK Charity Pledge Program charities.

If you are registered you should have received an email the morning of May 13. If you did not, you can CLICK HERE to choose your registration option.

Why are you not providing a Virtual Run Option?

At this time we are not planning a virtual event. We feel that by the Fall, the running community will be saturated with virtual races. There are also some spring races that have been postponed until the fall (other provinces and some US states are able to do this as they are subject to different restrictions). So runners may have the choice to participate in a fall race rather than choosing the virtual option. But we have plans to keep being your source for all things running and walking.

Can I get a refund of my charity donation?

If you have donated already, we thank you. You should have received your tax receipt from the charity. The charities have all received their donations which will go towards their respective programs and projects.

Stay engaged and keep training!

Keep following us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as we continue to inspire and educate!

Again, we know you are as disappointed as us, so we thank you for your understanding. We will be back, so save the dates for October 10, 2021 and October 9, 2022.

Stay healthy,

Victoria Marathon Society
