Marathon

This world-renowned marathon is a beautiful, seaside course with lots of mild undulations, but with a maximum elevation change of only 74 feet. An amazing race whether this is your first marathon or you are a seasoned marathoner. All participants receive a long sleeve New Balance technical shirt, finisher’s medal and certificate.

Our 2016 Marathon sold out, so register early.

Marathon Early Start

If you are going to take over 5:30 min to complete the Marathon, then you need to start with our Early Marathon start group. The finish line closes at 2:30 p.m., so we want to help you get there in time!

  • If you do not have the correct colour race number, you will not be allowed to start early.
  • Runners with a pace faster than 7:28/km (12:01/mile), finishing the Marathon faster than 5:15, or crossing the finish line before 11:45 a.m. will be disqualified and their names will be removed from the official results. This is a safety issue – the far reaches of the course have no marshals until after 8:00 a.m.
  • Be at the start by 6:00 a.m. (location: Menzies & Kingston)
  • Until 7:30 a.m., participants must be on the sidewalk, obey local traffic laws and be self- sufficient as volunteer support will be limited.
  • You will be escorted for the first 60-90 minutes of the Marathon by cyclists. Some of the cyclists will be stationed at critical turning points and others will cycle along with you.
  • You will need your own water for the first hour.
  • There will be no traffic control for the first hour, so be very careful at intersections.

8K Road Race

With a new route for 2017 the 8K Road Race is going to be a fast paced with a beautiful scenic route through downtown, Beacon Hill and finishing along the ocean front. The 8K is a great distance for every participant. All participants receive a short sleeve New Balance technical shirt, a finisher’s medal and certificate!

The 8K Road Race sold out in 2016. Don’t delay – register soon!

Leg Information

Leg 1 – The Fast Starter (10.4 km)
Enjoy the vibe and excitement of the Marathon Main Start. Run through downtown Victoria, Cook St. Village and Beacon Hill Park. Enjoy the scenic ocean views before handing off to your team mate after the Ross Bay Cemetery.

Leg 2 – The Back Breaker (10.1 km)
Break the back of the relay with a mildly undulating 10 km run that takes in Oak Bay Village, on the Victoria Golf Club hill and at Oak Bay Marina. We could have called this the Tea/Tee Maker – but you deserve more kudos for running this leg.

Leg 3 – The Turn Arounder (5.7 km)
Is that poor English? We don’t care! The runner on this leg literally does the turnaround. Enjoy Cattle Point and the leafy roads of Uplands as you head out to the turnaround on Exeter Road. You finish where you started – so you can blast out a good pace on this one.

Leg 4 – The Wall Breaker (10.0 km)
While the Marathon runners will be breaking through “The Wall” at 32 km, you’ll be only 6 km into your leg. Not that it’s an easy one mind you – but please cheer on the Marathon runners you see on this leg…they’ll appreciate it!

Leg 5 – The Glory Getter (6 km)
Yep – this one gets the glory of the finish line. We do make you run up to Beacon Hill Park though. Throw in a salute to Terry Fox as you pass his statue and remember to count the turns to the finish – is it seven or eight? Revel in the noise and atmosphere of the finish line – remember to collect your teams’ medals!

Exchange Points:
  • #1 / #4: Dallas Road and St. Charles St. (east end of Ross Bay Cemetery)
  • #2 / #3: Beach Drive and Dalhousie St. (Willows Beach)
