(Victoria, B.C. – November 2, 2026) — The Royal Victoria Marathon has announced that $265,365 has been raised from its charity program this year. The CHEK Charity Pledge Program is in its 21st year and this year 25 charities participated. To date the program has raised $2.7 million since 2005.
“We set a new record this year in terms of the amount raised for charity,” said RVM Race Director, Cathy Noel. “It isn't easy to inspire people to give but the work that all of our charity partners do touch lives every day - locally, provincially and nationally. We would like to recognize the incredible effort that our 25 charities put in and a thank you to all that pledged and ran for charity.”
The top three fundraisers were:
Lorraine Gee, Broadmead Care Foundation, who raised $10,000. Second was Gail Mudie, Victoria Hospitals Foundation at $6,490 and third was Katrina Kelly, BC Cancer Foundation at $4,900.
“After 44 years at Beckley Farm Lodge, I’ve seen firsthand the difference donations make in the lives of the people who call our Home their own,” said Gee who is executive director of the Lodge. “Fundraising helps us provide those special extras that bring comfort, create joyful moments, and enhance our residents’ quality of life.”
“At Broadmead Care, we have a little friendly competition among our Homes when it comes to fundraising, and I love a good challenge! What truly motivates me is knowing that every dollar raised helps make life better for the people we care for. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me and contributed to this effort,” added Gee.
Mudie exceeded her goal of $2,000 and was running for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation in memory of her husband Rob. “In 1991, Rob and I ran our first marathon together: the Royal Victoria Marathon. During the last year of Rob’s life, Victoria General Hospital played a huge role in his quality of life and so this year this year I’ll complete my last marathon in his memory,” Mudie stated on her fundraising page.
Danielle Mulligan, manager, events and annual giving, Victoria Health Foundation adds: “Through fundraising, participants become ambassadors for better healthcare, rallying friends and family, and encouraging others to support patients and care teams in our hospitals.”
“Since 2010, participants in the Royal Victoria Marathon who have chosen to fundraise for the BC Cancer Foundation have raised an impressive $317,000, including this year’s contributions,” said William Litchfield, vice-president, development, BC Cancer Foundation. “This year, those funds will support our Vancouver Island Patient Relief Fund, helping ease the practical and financial barriers to care, including travel, accommodation, groceries and other cancer-related costs.”
Applications for the 2027 CHEK Charity Pledge Program are open until November 30. "Building on this year's record-breaking success, the CHEK Charity Pledge Program looks forward to welcoming charities and fundraisers back in 2027,” said RVM Charity Chair, Mandy Parker.
