RVM’s Thrifty Foods Kids Run is an exciting component of Race Weekend. The 1km run starts and finishes at beautiful Willows Beach Park (at 2740 Dalhousie St) in Oak Bay. The event invites participants aged 12 and under, but parents are welcome to run alongside their children (at no additional cost). The route runs out-and-back along Beach Drive.

Event proceeds benefit KidSport Greater Victoria. This local organization supports local kids living in financial need, so they can access the benefits of organized sport and physical activity.

To date, over 18,000 children and youth in the region have made it off the sidelines and onto the playing field through their support. Three cheers for KidSport! Runners can register to run solo or as part of a school team. Stay tuned for updates about our exciting prizes!

Please note that we will be gathering everyone at the Willows Park Lawn for our announcements and warm-up. Participants will then proceed to the start line by age group. To help us ensure a smooth start and finish to the race, we ask that you follow this process and do not head to the start line on your own.

10:10am: Welcome and Announcements begin in the Park at the Stage

10:30am: Warm up starts on the lawn stage

10:45am: 7 to 12 year olds Race Start

11:00am: 0 to 6 year olds Race Start

  • Please note: only public/private grade schools are eligible

    Schools that have 10 or more children entered in the Kids Run by midnight on October 1 will have their packages delivered to the school team captain by Wednesday, October 7 for distribution at the school.

    • Kids who register for their school team after October 1 will pick up their registration package at the Race Expo on Friday October 9 from 11:00am to 6:00pm OR on Saturday October 10 at Willows Beach Park from 9:00am to 10:00am.

    • School teams with fewer than 10 registrants at midnight on October 1 will pick up their race packages from the Race Expo on Oct 9 from 11:00am to 6:00pm OR on Saturday October 10 at Willows Beach Park from 9:00am to 10:00am.

    • Sign up your school for the Thrifty Foods Kids Run School Challenge!  Information will be posted here shortly regarding signing up a team.

  • Step 1: (if not already done) you or a rep from your school should visit  and get your school team registered. CLICK HERE This link should take you directly to the page to register (at no charge) as a team leader for the Kids Run. 

    *at bottom of “Sub Event” section (just above “Personal Information” section, be sure to select “Team Leader (FREE)”, then register yourself and “Create a New Team” under the Teams portion of the registration. Under Team Category, choose “School Team – Elementary”. Make sure when you name your team that it is obvious for those wishing to join your team.

    (Please note, creating a team does not mean you're registered yet. If you plan to also have a child participate, that needs to be done separately.)

     Step 2: Once the above is done, you will receive a link that you can share electronically with your school for easy registration to your team.  Now, share the word widely, advising your school population to register to run for your school team. To do so, they can use your team’s personalized link, or they can go to https://raceroster.com/events/2026/111326/2026-royal-victoria-marathon/register?, then hit the blue REGISTER button, login or create an account, and select “Thrifty Foods Kids Run - Saturday, October 10”.

    NOTE:  When they get to the Teams section they should select "Yes, add to another existing team" where they will be given the option to choose your school.

  • Where do we pick up our registration package?

    • Pick up your child’s registration package at the Race Expo, held at the Victoria Conference Centre, Crystal Gardens on Friday, Oct. 9 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be pick up available on Saturday, October 10 from 9:00 am – 9:45 am at Willows Beach Park. We expect this time to busy, so would suggest picking up on Friday if possible.

    *Exceptions: school teams with over 10 registered by October 1 will have packages delivered to their schools.

    Can I register on Race Day?

    • No. Registration ends at 6:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Victoria Conference Centre.

    Can my child participate in a stroller?

    • Yes, you are welcome to push your participant in a stroller. We ask that you gather at the back of the 0-6 year old group to help with the congestion at the start.

    Price:

    • $25 entry fee until August 31. $30 from September 1 to October 9.

    Goodies:

    • Each registered participant will receive a medal and swag item.
